Cleansing is the most straightforward of all the steps in your skincare routine…you may think!
But if you are not cleansing correctly, your skin is not going to be glowing with good health. We are going to breakdown the skincare myths and give you professional beauty advice based on Annod’s founders long term industry knowledge and experience of caring for skin.

Doing the correct steps in the correct order and using the right ingredients at the right time is easy when you follow these truths and avoid these myths.

THE MYTHS

1. I MUST DEEPLY CLEANSE MY SKIN MORNING AND NIGHT

At night, your skin has been in repair mode & your night moisturiser has had 8 hours(hopefully) to absorb. Mornings mean your skin only needs a light mild cleanse to remove any residue of perspiration, oil, moisturiser & dust that has settled onto the skin. You will need to rehydrate and prepare an Organic Mist before moisturising.

2. DOUBLE CLEANSING IS A MUST AS IT PROVIDES A DEEPER CLEANSE FOR THE SKIN

For most skin, double cleansing is not recommended. You run the risk of stripping the skin’s biome and dehydrating the surface. If you are wearing heavy makeup, you can first break down some makeup colours with the cleanser on a cotton pad.

3. CLEANSING OILS ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR OILY AND ACNE-PRONE SKIN

An Oil Cleanser has a finer molecular structure than a cream cleanser and will provide a deeper refreshing cleanse without stripping the skin’s hydrolipidic film. If you disrupt this, you will create more oil flow and create a cycle of oiliness and breakouts.

4. SQUEAKY CLEAN MEANS MY SKIN IS CLEAN

A misconception of if the skin is clean only if it feels “squeaky clean” or tight. This feeling indicates you have over-stripped the skin and you have stripped the moisture from the surface, this will make oily skin produce more oil, dry skin become flaky and sensitive skin become pinker and more irritated.

THE TRUTHS

1. Apply your facial cleanser to a dry face with dry hands, and then apply water to your face after you have broken down the oil-soluble particles.

2. Avoid foaming cleansers and soaps on any skin type. Your skin is an acid and foaming or soap-based products are alkaline which will strip your skin’s PH.

3. Physically remove your cleanser with a washer or facial sponges to ensure you have removed all the dirt, makeup, sunblock, cleanser, and the day’s energy & emotions.

4. Your skin type will remain the same, but your skin conditions will change with the season, so it is good practice to change your cleanser to match the season and your skin’s needs.

5. Using the right amount of product is also crucial to achieving clean healthy skin. To use a cleansing cream, you will need 6- 8 pumps. For a Cleansing Oil, you will need 4-6 pumps of product. To ensure you have removed all the product from the skin, an Organic Mist will require 10 – 12 sprays.

6. A single cleanse will be sufficient when you follow our rules, each Annod cleanser formulation has been designed and prescribed for each skin type.
